What is Local Walls?
Local Walls is a hosted print program by Matthew Vargason Photography. Selected businesses can display large-format photographic artwork in their space at no upfront cost. The prints remain available for purchase and may be rotated, replaced, or removed over time.
Do we have to buy the print?
No. The print is provided as hosted artwork. your business gets to display the piece without purchasing it upfront.
Does the business receive a commission if the print sells?
No. The benefit to the business is access to professionally produced large-format artwork without the cost of buying, printing, framing, or sourcing it.
Who owns the print while it is on display?
The print remains the property of Matthew Vargason Photography until it is purchased.
What happens if someone wants to buy the print?
Arrangements for sale are made with each selected business based on their needs, capability, and comfort. A small placard is provided with each print, providing prospective customers with purchasing information.
What happens if the displayed print sells?
If the print sells, another piece can be promptly provided as a replacement for the selected business.
Can we choose the image?
Usually, yes. The final selection depends on the space, the available wall area, the atmosphere of the business, and what work is currently available for placement.
Can we request a specific style or subject matter?
Yes. Businesses can request a certain mood, subject, or visual direction. Not every request will be a fit, but the goal is to place work that feels natural in the space.
Can we commission custom artwork for our space?
Yes. If you want work created specifically for your business, that would be handled as a separate commissioned photography project rather than part of the hosted print program.
What kind of businesses are a good fit?
The program works best for businesses with visible wall space and a strong atmosphere: barber shops, tattoo studios, cafés, restaurants, bars, breweries, gyms, music venues, retail spaces, studios, and creative offices.
What does the business need to provide?
A clean, safe, visible place to display the print, permission for a small placard to hang beside the print, and reasonable care while the piece is on site.
Can the print be moved once it is installed?
Businesses are expected to collaborate with Matthew Vargason Photography before moving the print. This helps prevent damage and keeps the display consistent.
What happens if the print is damaged?
Damage should be reported as soon as possible. Responsibility for damage can depend on the situation. This will be covered in the hosting agreement before placement.
Is there a contract or agreement?
Yes. A simple hosting agreement outlines ownership, display location, care expectations, removal, sale terms, and what happens if the piece is damaged.
How long does the print stay on display?
Display length can vary depending on the location and the piece. Some prints may remain long-term, while others may rotate, sell, or be moved to another location.
Can we ask to have the print removed?
Yes. If the piece is no longer a good fit or the walls pace is needed, we can coordinate the piece's removal.
Can Matthew Vargason Photography remove or replace the print?
Yes. Since the print remains the property of Matthew Vargason Photography, it may be removed, replaced, rotated, or sold as availability changes.
Can we share photos of the print on social media?
Yes, as long as Matthew Vargason Photography is credited/tagged when possible. Sharing the display is encouraged.
Can we use the image in our own marketing?
Not without permission. Hosting the physical print does not include commercial usage rights to the image. Marketing can be discussed separately.
What sizes and finishes are available.
Most hosted pieces are large-format finished prints. Images are often printed on metal or other premium display formats. Available sizes, and finishes depend on the image, space, and intended presentation. Smaller pieces are available upon request, but typically require multiple pieces to be hosted simultaneously.
